“Men don’t put enough importance on finding time to just sit with a group of friends, and just talk” Harrison Webb, 32, went to one of the UK’s few wellness retreats just for men The experience showed him the value of male friendship ⬇️

Every morning we would practice yoga on the decking and shower in the waterfall which was freezing but incredible. Each day was different. There might be surfing, breathwork, or jiu-jitsu. In the evening we would sit by the campfire, looking out at the sea and watching the sunset.

We started to have really open conversations, especially around the fire. On the first night, the conversation was led by Anthony, the founder of the retreat. He is this six feet six inches, former professional rugby player. He had a big role to play in making it feel okay for us to talk about real things., and yet, there he was, being extremely vulnerable and open about his life’s struggles and experiences. It gave everyone else permission to do it as well.

I didn’t have a singular breakthrough moment like that. But looking back, I think the whole experience was a bit of a breakthrough moment for me. I realised that I had been lacking a strong group of malein my life. I have always had a lot of close, individual friends, but not that sense of community. As a man, I think if you don’t have that from a young age, it gets harder as you get older. Guys aren’t as good at making new friends.
