The biggest night in Irish film and television took place tonight at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel on Golden Lane, Dublin

Hollywood superstar Saoirse Ronan shared the spotlight with Alisha Weir last night as she brought her fellow nominee on stage to accept her IFTA award.

All three members of the group - Naoise Ó Caireallain, J.J. Ó Dochartaigh and Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh- were nominated in the category. Taking to the stage to accept the trophy for his role in Small Things Like These, the Oscar-winner shouted out to “me old pal Eileen Walsh”- his wife in the movie. She was praised for her fantastic portrayal of Dolours Price in the harrowing series. Tom Vaughan-Lawlor also took home the award for Best Support Actor in a Drama for playing older Brendan Hughes in the hit show while Hazel Doupe was awarded the actress equivalent for her role as Marian Price.

He said: "For Kneecap to trust me to tell their story and to make a film with such an impact is so, so special.” Last night also saw Colm Meaney receive the IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award.
