Five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek advances to the Australian Open quarter-finals after a dominant victory. WADA announces it won't appeal her case, allowing her to focus on her tournament. Jannik Sinner overcomes illness to reach the quarterfinals, awaiting the outcome of his own doping appeal.
Five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek celebrated a decisive victory against Germany's Eva Lys, winning 6-0 6-1 at the Australian Open . This win propelled Swiatek into the quarter-finals for the second time in her career. Swiatek expressed satisfaction and relief following the World Anti- Doping Agency ( WADA )'s announcement that it would not appeal her case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
\The positive test for the banned substance trimetazidine in August triggered a provisional ban in September. However, Swiatek successfully appealed, returning to action in October after the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) accepted her explanation that the positive result stemmed from contamination of her melatonin medication. Swiatek accepted a one-month ban, which ended on December 4th, taking into account the time already served. \WADA's statement confirmed that their scientific experts deemed the contaminated melatonin scenario plausible and found no scientific basis to challenge it at CAS. Swiatek expressed gratitude for the understanding received from fellow players and emphasized her desire to move forward and focus on her tennis. Meanwhile, men's world number one Jannik Sinner, who also faced a positive test for clostebol last year, is still awaiting the outcome of WADA's appeal to CAS. Despite illness, Sinner secured his place in the Australian Open quarter-finals, defeating Holger Rune 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-2. The hearing for Sinner's case is scheduled for April 16th
