IMAGE Interiors autumn/winter 2026 hits shelves today, October 2. Editor Megan Burns shares what you can expect inside. Like anything we’ve become accustomed to, it’s easy to forget just how spectacular our Irish landscape is, but I think the turn from summer into autumn is the perfect reminder.
Some greens intensify while others fade, russet tones start to dapple through foliage, and even the blue of the sky shifts as the light lowers. In this issue, there are so many people who have taken the landscape around them as inspiration, celebrating it, centring it, and even crafting from it. Our cover star, the Dublin home built in a former quarry, takes the rugged rock face outside and brings its rich tones and textures into its design.
While the seaside setting of a Co Meath home is reflected in a cool palette of silvers, blues and greys, blending beautifully with the spectacular views. And you can find a Terenure home where a garden room is the best seat in the house, providing somewhere to read, listen to records and look out the window – something we probably all wish we had.
Elsewhere, Melanie Mullan visits Jack Smith’s woodturning studio in Dublin 8, where he crafts pieces that are at once delicate and solid from Irish wood, working with the unique properties of each individual piece. Michelle Hanley takes some of our most iconic landscapes as the starting point for our mood pages, while Gemma Tipton meets the couple behind Pasparakis Friel architects, who swapped London life for Donegal and its rugged landscape, creating buildings that work in harmony with each site.
And to mark 50 years since her death, Patricia O’Reilly looks back at the incredible life of Eileen Gray, including her iconic E-1027 villa that was so inspired by its coastal setting. A trip away is the perfect excuse to immerse yourself in a landscape that’s different from your everyday, such as our pick of forest stays, from cosy cabins to luxurious retreats.
And while much of the focus on new opening Ómós in Abbeyleix has been on the incredible food, I share how for me, the guesthouse experience was just as much a reason to visit. There are few places I’ve been that have had such a perfect atmosphere, where I’d be happy to simply sit and watch the rain for an afternoon, and where you’re surrounded by Irish craft.
If you’re after a rural escape, we explore a Monaghan farmhouse that has been transformed into a dream self-catering stay – I can’t get enough of the vintage furniture and old agricultural tools dotted around. We also have plenty of ideas for making the most of your home this season. Emma Gilleece explores a Liberties cottage that has cleverly maximised its tiny footprint, and Maria Neuman digs into how to make lighting work for you in every space.
Home offices are a necessity for many of us but don’t always fit neatly into our layouts, but Jennifer McShane seeks out tips from the experts on how to approach this often-tricky space.

Irish Government Revises Down Corporation Tax Receipts for 2026The Irish Government expects corporation tax receipts to reach €34 billion this year, below its earlier forecast of €35.3 billion.
