In front of a large group of MLB scouts, Vanderbilt baseball commit Andrew Dutkanych showed why he's considered a potential first-round pick.
Back against the wall, Dutkanych retired the next 12 batters in a row, including eight straight via strikeout. Dutkanych's fastball tops out at 97 mph, and the Dragons prepared all week for his velocity. Silver Creek made solid contact in the second inning and led off the third with a single. Unable to rely on his fastball, the Vanderbilt commit had to change his pitch mix and turn to his slider and curveball.
"We've seen before, but for a lot of these guys it's a new experience to see velo and a good curveball like that," Silver Creek coach Joe Decker said."He's not a first-round draft pick because he throws 97. He's a first-round draft pick because he can throw three pitches for a strike. He's a competitor."
