Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker gave an update Monday on increased expressway patrols.
Added license plate readers are helping investigators, but state police said social media is fueling some of the gun violence.
"What has changed and what is a factor that's driving some of this activity is social media. People who have issues with one another, whether it's gangs that are maybe fighting with one another or people that even know each other that have some beef or some dispute," Kelly said. "Like I said, it's almost like a modern form, 21st century form of dueling. Almost like Main Street in the Old West, they're using these expressways for this type of violence."Pritzker said with the increased anti-violence measures, the Illinois State Police has made a wide number of arrests and charges in multiple shooting incidents.
