The Independent Ireland candidate for Midlands-North-West told the Irish Mirror he is “seriously concerned about RTÉ’s future going forward” as he criticised Ryan Tubridy’s receiving more than his publicly declared salary
Former RTÉ Midlands Correspondent Ciaran Mullooly has questioned whether Director General Kevin Bakhurst is the right “person to deal with a government on his back before they hand over a cheque”.
Mr Mullooly left RTÉ in 2021 after accepting a redundancy package. Since news of the financial scandal embroiling the broadcaster broke last summer, he has been highly critical of the organisation. “Kevin Bakhurst was the man to deal with that situation. Is he the person to deal with a government on his back before they hand over a cheque? I’m not sure about that.
As he canvassed voters in the Bridge Shopping Centre in Tullamore on Thursday, a queue formed at one point as people pointed out “your man off the telly”.However, he is running as an Independent Ireland candidate. The Electoral Commission stated in November that the “Registrar of Political Parties has given notice of his intention to approve an application by the Independent Ireland party to become a registered political party”.
Mr Mullooly also stated that he believed Independent Ireland would be in the next Government. This is even though Governments have a whip applied and have to vote how they are told.
