A top Indian university has threatened strict disciplinary action if its students' union carries out plans to screen a BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the move might disturb peace and harmony on campus
Modi was chief minister of the western state during the violence in which more than 2,000 people were killed, most of them Muslims.
Footage from inside the campus showed some students huddled together and watching the film on a laptop propped up on a chair. "This is to emphasise that such an unauthorised activity may disturb peace and harmony of the university campus," it said. Ghosh did not respond to phone calls and a message after reports emerged of a power outage in campus. The documentary was also screened at some campuses in the Communist-ruled southern state of Kerala, The Hindu newspaper reported.
