Antonio Banderas describes his character in Indiana Jones 5. 'He's just a friend of Indiana's character, and he's looking for him because he needs something from his friend.'

Antonio Bandaras discusses what to expect from his character in Indiana Jones 5. After over 40 years of starring as the titular archeologist, the movie will see Harrison Ford hang up Indy's iconic fedora and whip for good, with Indiana Jones 5 serving as the saga's last entry.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Bandaras has opened up about what viewers can expect from his new character. During an interview with Collider, Bandaras describes his appearance as like a cameo, with his character not taking up much screen time. Bandaras explains that his character is a friend of Indiana Jones, whom the titular character seeks out for help. Despite his seemingly small role, Bandaras also takes the time to express his happiness to be part of the Indiana Jones franchise.

“My character is very little; it's almost a cameo. He's just a friend of Indiana's character, and he's looking for him because he needs something from his friend. But he just takes up very little time of the movie, but very happy to be part of a saga that is of the history of motion pictures, obviously.

In many ways, the '60s are everything that characters like Indiana Jones aren't. A time when pop culture and advances in technology were constantly shifting, it's a far shout from the classic action heroes that the fundamentals of characters like Indiana Jones are based on. It's something Ford himself recently commented on, describing Indy as a fish out of water, but it's a great opportunity to develop the character in whole new ways.

While at one point, it looked like the critically panned Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull would serve as the series' final outing, all signs point to Indiana Jones 5 being the sendoff the series deserves. Bandaras expressing his joy in appearing in the film says it all about how important the franchise is to cinema, and it's all down to Ford's incredibly charismatic, decade-spanning performance.
