For Home on a Rainbow, LJ Tyson received a special distinction award of $1,000 from the SOCAN Foundation\u0027s TD Indigenous Songwriter Award.

As a queer Indigenous person, the Cree/Metis folk-pop artist said he had a hard time when he was younger because of his identity. That identity has now become the subject of his music — something he uses to bridge gaps, send hopeful messages and connect people from all walks of life.

Based on that experience, he wrote Home on a Rainbow, an intimate and unique folk-pop song. Throughout the track, Tyson sings about his story, his identity, and his experience growing up as a queer, Indigenous person in rural Saskatchewan.Article contenttap here to see other videos from our team“It’s such a special song, it’s very close to my heart,” said Tyson. “To be recognized, for this song in particular, is such a special experience.
