Sky News contributor Caroline Di Russo says an increase in interest rates will see “people who have mortgages…suffer the most”.
“Inflation isn’t a problem until it’s a problem. And when you don’t deal with it until it’s a problem, then you’ve got to hit it harder,” she told Sky News host Jenna Clarke.
“If we had of managed this a little bit earlier, you could’ve had a couple of more subtle rate rises, without essentially having to get the sledgehammer out to try and stop inflation.” She said even with rising interest rates, “as long as people have jobs and they’re able to service their debt, the impact is not going to be as significant as if we start to see a rise in unemployment at some point”.
