Household foodstuffs like butter, Irish cheddar, full fat milk, potatoes and spaghetti all saw increases in January 2025

Irish consumers continued to feel the pinch in January, as price hikes hit key household expenses, with alcoholic beverages and tobacco seeing some of the largest increases in prices over the first month of the year.

In January 2025, the most significant monthly price changes were in clothing and footwear and recreation and culture . Clothing and footwear fell due to sales. Clothing and footwear and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance were the only divisions to show a decrease when compared with January 2024.

"There were decreases in the price of an 800g loaf of brown sliced pan , and an 800g loaf of white sliced pan when compared with January 2024." Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose due to higher prices across a range of products such as chocolate and confectionery, mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices, vegetables, bread and cereals and milk, cheese and eggs.
