READ MORE: Weather models 'all over the place' as hopes of a dry Bank Holiday weekend begin to dampen “I asked the Department of Foreign Affairs at a number of management meetings and I proposed that we should do something very specific this year to alert young people to the risks,” he explained. “I'm also working with my department to try and improve our capacity on the registration side. We would appeal to young people to register with the Department of Foreign Affairs when you're going abroad because that enables our consulates and our team, both here and abroad, to move quickly, to alert people generally to issues that may arise in a given location.“We're opening a new consulate in Malaga, for example, to deal with consular cases there.
The Tánaiste said that the “Make the Right Memories” campaign will encourage people to “consider the safety and well-being of themselves and their friends when travelling abroad”.
