The Graham Lee Racing Club will help meet the ongoing care costs of the jockey who has been in hospital since suffering life-changing injuries last year for whom £200,000 has been raised so far

Grand National-winning jockey Graham Lee says he has been "really humbled" by the launch of a new racing club which will help fund his care.

A JustGiving page , established by the jockey’s university student daughter Amy through the Injured Jockeys has soared past £200,000. Lee, who remains in the spinal unit at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough, said: “I’m really humbled that a fundraising racing club has been set up in my honour, and that Paul Hanagan has chosen the horse for me. I’ve been shown videos of the horse and she looks very promising. No pressure Paul, but I hope you’ve picked a winner!

“The generosity of the Good Racing Club and Injured Jockeys’ Fund has been huge,” she said. “It’s made a world of difference already. It sounds silly now but when I set up the page, I set my target at £100. I set it up on the Monday after Dad's accident thinking if I got to £100 by the end of the week, it would make such a difference.

She continued: “Dad’s condition is still the same but we are hoping that he is going to get discharged soon.
