INMO says campaign of industrial action is not over, just suspended

Speaking as she arrived for a Labour Court hearing, INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha said that last month's Labour Court recomendation aimed at resolving the dispute had provided for a new contract to be agreed between management and unions within three weeks.

The Government's contract proposals would give health sector employers the right to vary the duration of shifts from four to 12 hours, as well as the right to relocate staff within 40km, including during an individual shift. She said that fundamentally what was required was a look at how nurses work, what they do, and how that can be enhanced.

Ms Ní Sheaghdha said these measures would not assist in any shape, manner or form in improving productivity or enhancing patient care, and would only serve to ensure that nurses would not remain in the systemLabour Court recommends new nursing grade with higher pay
