A 13-year-old girl with a severe cow's milk allergy, Hannah Jacobs, passed away hours after she took a sip of a Costa Coffee hot chocolate despite her mother's pleading with staff to make the drink with soya milk
An inquest into the death of a 13-year-old girl, Hannah Jacobs, is underway in the UK after she died hours after taking a sip of a Costa Coffee hot chocolate.
The teen’s mother told East London Coroner’s Court that she told the barista at the east London Cosa branch that her daughter had a severe cow’s milk allergy and she requested the milk jug be cleaned, "to which they agreed", the Mirror reports.Read more: Newly engaged bride, 24, dies after using the wrong spoon for her tea
Ms Duyile said her daughter had an "immediate reaction", complaining of chest pains and her "lips and mouth were very swollen and she was itchy". Speaking to the court, Ms Duyile said "my initial response was of anger to the Costa Coffee staff - it gave way to terror," adding that she "made sure that the staff aware that this was not a joke" while ordering the drinks.
