Inquests into the deaths of two university students and a school caretaker who were killed in an attack in Nottingham have opened on Friday, July 7. Hosting the hearing at the Council House in Old Market Square, Senior Coroner Mairin Casey began by reading out the names of the victims and their dates of birth.
Barnaby Phillip John Webber, who was born on January 11, 2004, was aged 19 when he died. He was formally identified by his father David Webber on June 15, the hearing was told.Grace Shashi Mary O'Malley-Kumar, who was born on October 17, 2003 died aged 19 years old. She was also identified by her dad, Dr Kumar.
Ms Casey told the inquest that the "circumstances around their deaths are well-known". Barnaby and Grace, both students at the University of Nottingham, were subject to a serious attack on Ilkeston Road. Mr Coates was on his way to work when he was attacked on Magdala Road. A post-mortem examination was carried out into his death, which concluded that he had died of stab wounds to his chest.
