Kilkenny hurling star DJ Carey has become a household name due to his GAA career, having a number of Inter-County titles under his belt as well as managing and coaching teams after his retirement.
Family background Born in Kilkenny in 1970, DJ was raised in a large sporting family with three brothers and three sisters.One brother, Martin, was a member of the Kilkenny hurling panel as a substitute goalkeeper for a period of time and one sister, Catriona Carey, was a member of the Ireland women's national field hockey team as well as being part of the Kilkenny senior camogie team.
One brother died in a farming accident while young, and another passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome .
