Chupi Sweetman is well known for her eponymous jewellery brand, but her attention to detail and glamour is also present in her gorgeous Victorian home in Dublin

Chupi Sweetman, the woman behind the eponymous jewellery brand known for its aesthetic beauty inspired by Irish nature and folklore, has created a stunning home in Dublin.Built on the cusp of the Victorian/Georgian period, the house is technically Victorian but has strong Georgian influences, including very large windows.

"The people that lived here since have done such a good job of keeping the bones intact - the window boxes, the shutters, the cornices and the fireplaces, those incredible pieces from the past. That wasn’t always the case in the other houses we went to see. “The ceiling roses are beautiful works of art and we are preserving them, but using really contemporary lights rather than chandeliers.Chupi says there was no question about whether her family would go for an old or new home. “Give me crumbling grandeur and high ceilings, even though it may mean colder rooms,” she says.

As soon as you walk into Chupi’s home you pick up a happy vibe, a combination of brightness, design, decor and the energy of the people living there. Describing her approach to design as creative problem solving, she views designing her home the same way as her jewellery. “For my jewellery brand, I have to figure out how it conveys to the person you love that you want to spend the rest of your life with them, or how to celebrate a huge moment for yourself.

“I couldn’t live in a grey and white box, gold is like bringing the sun into your house, our gold leaf wall in the bedroom is like a glowing sun. As a designer, whether it is with Chupi or at home, I want to bring joy.” "Growing up in Wicklow, our gorgeous kitchen, made by my uncle, epitomised home to me. It was one big living space and I wanted to recreate that feeling in our kitchen.

“The stairs took us about three weeks, which is longer than we thought. We tried painting it first but that didn’t work and eventually we used gold leaf, which gave it that incredible finish. We literally had to paint ourselves to bed. We started at the bottom of the stairs, sat on step number two and painted step number one, and did that until we got to the top.
