What fans can expect as Sky shows tennis for first time in seven years
As such, sources say they will not be afraid to tear up the broadcasting rulebook. Many of the faces will be familiar –– but how and when viewers see them may be different.
For Henman, it is a brand new employer; surprisingly he has never worked for Sky before, but the former British No 1 says it feels like a natural home for him. “It’s really exciting. I’m a massive sports fan and I watch very little else, apart from Sky Sports, really. I was watching The Hundred cricket last night, I watch the football, I’m a massive golf fan so I watch all the golf and I think their coverage is brilliant,” Henman tells“Within my own journey, in the days of the Mercedes Super Nines back in 1997, for the vast majority of that time they were on Sky Sports. So they’ll be able to dig out a few of matches from the archives.
Sky will have no shortage of screens to show them on either. With the US Open falling neatly into the Premier League’s international break, Sky’s creative team has spent 18 months planning to turn thestudio into their home of tennis for the tournament. Henman and Navratilova, along with presenter Gigi Salmon, will spend the first week broadcasting from London before decamping to Flushing Meadows for the climax of the tournament.
