A weather alert has warned that intense thunderstorms are on their way along with warm and humid conditions.

Ireland is set to scorch in 28C weather next week, however some intense thunderstorms and spot flooding will interrupt the return to high pressure.

Welcome to the sticky muggy weather." Temperatures of 28 degrees are forecast for next week, with overnight temperatures sticking in the mid teens.

Met Éireann has said this Friday will be warm and humid with some scattered showers across Munster and parts of Connaught, with temperatures ranging between 21C and 25C. For Saturday they said it will be warm and humid with scattered showers in the south in the morning, which will gradually extend into other parts of the country, some turning heavy with the chance of "isolated thunderstorms and spot flooding."For Monday and Tuesday, Met Éireann added: "Warmer or even hot days with sunshine and scattered slow moving showers - potential for heavy and thundery one with possible flooding. Parts of the country staying fully dry though.
