Ipswich Town are unbeaten in their opening league match of the season in each of the last 10 seasons since losing 2-1 to Reading in the Championship in 2013-14. Between December and February in their last Premier League campaign of 2001-02, Ipswich had a run of seven wins in eight games which moved them to 12th in the table. However, following that run they won just one of their last 13 matches , and were ultimately relegated.
Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna will be the 16th manager whose first ever Premier League game in charge comes in a match against Liverpool. Just four of the previous 15 have won , with Brian Clough , John Gregory , Paul Sturrock and Craig Shakespeare doing so.
