Iran Accuses US Bases in Jordan of Supporting Attack on Larak Island, Warns of Decisive Response
Iran, United States, Jordan

Iran's foreign ministry claims US military bases in Jordan supported an attack on Larak Island that killed and wounded Iranian forces and civilians, warning of a decisive response to further aggression. Jordan intercepted eight missiles that breached its airspace. President Trump posted an AI-generated video claiming Kharg Island was destroyed. Separately, a supertanker was struck by naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz for allegedly illegal passage.

Iran's foreign ministry accused the United States of using its military bases in Jordan to launch and support an earlier attack on Larak Island, which resulted in casualties among members of Iran's armed forces as well as civilians.

The ministry stated that Iran would respond decisively to any further military aggression and placed full responsibility on the United States and parties supporting its actions for any potential escalation. In a related development, Jordan's military announced that it had intercepted eight missiles after they breached the kingdom's airspace, successfully destroying them before they caused any damage on the ground.

In a social media post accompanied by an AI-generated video clip, United States President Donald Trump claimed that Iran's energy hub of Kharg Island was being blown to smithereens. The post was captioned with the phrase President DJT but offered no further details. Using software designed to detect AI-manipulated imagery, Reuters confirmed that the accompanying video clip showing dramatic explosions was most likely synthetically generated.

Attacking Kharg Island, which handled approximately ninety percent of Iran's oil exports before the war launched by United States and Israeli attacks on February 28th, would severely disrupt its energy trade and place enormous pressure on its economy. Meanwhile, a supertanker caught fire and was brought to a complete halt after being struck by two naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran state television, which cited a statement by the Revolutionary Guards.

The Guards stated that the tanker had been attempting to pass through the waterway illegally. The report did not identify the vessel or provide information about its crew. Iran issued a warning that other ships violating its security rules would face the same fate and declared that compliance with its regulations for passage through the Strait of Hormuz was mandatory.

United Nations Secretary General António Guterres commented on the broader situation, stating that superpowers need to understand that things have changed
