Seven weather warnings have been issued for counties in Ireland and Northern Ireland as Storm Herminia approaches, following the destructive impact of Storm Eowyn. Expect snow, ice, and strong winds throughout the weekend.
Met Éireann has issued two new weather warnings related to the impending arrival of Storm Herminia, which is due to follow Storm Eowyn to Ireland this weekend. A snow and ice warning has been issued to Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo and will be in effect from 8pm on Saturday night until 9am on Sunday morning. Met Éireann has warned of scattered snow showers and icy stretches in affected counties while the warning is in place, with the snow showers expected to become isolated overnight.
The snow and ice warning follows a similar warning issued by the UK Met Office for all six counties in Northern Ireland, which will be in place between 6pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday, with snow showers, icy patches and travel disruption expected as a result. Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow wind warning to Donegal, Leitrim, Louth and Meath, effective from 11am on Sunday morning until 6pm on Sunday evening. Further damage to trees and structures already damaged by Storm Eowyn as well as difficult travelling conditions are expected. The UK Met Office has also issued an additional Status Yellow wind warning to Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh and Tyrone, which will be in effect from 10am until 7pm on Sunday and is anticipated to have an impact on transport and infrastructure. There are now seven separate weather warnings in place for counties in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland between Saturday evening and Monday morning as a result of Storm Herminia, which was named by the Spanish Met Office on Friday as Ireland was still reeling from the devastating impact of Storm Eowyn. The full list of warnings can be seen below: The inclement weather is set to last into the middle of next week according to Met Éireann, with “unsettled” and “breezy” and “rather windy” conditions with “frequent spells of rain or showers” forecast for the coming days. Current indications, thankfully, suggest the weather will improve from Thursday heading into the Bank Holiday weekend next weekend.
