Ireland's weather is set to be dominated by wind, rain, and fog this week, impacting Valentine's Day celebrations and daily commutes. Met Eireann warns of persistent rain, strong winds, and potential for spot flooding.

Ireland 's weather in 2025 has been a mixed bag so far, and the upcoming days will continue this trend with a combination of wind, rain, and fog. While this week might coincide with Valentine's Day , it's best to postpone any romantic picnic plans unless you're prepared for a sudden downpour. Wind and rain are expected to dominate the coming days, so remember to carry a coat and an umbrella when venturing outdoors.

Additionally, visibility may be affected by lingering mist and fog, requiring extra caution while driving. Spot flooding is also possible following heavy rainfall. According to Met Eireann, here's a breakdown of the forecast for the rest of the week:Thursday: Connacht and Munster will experience rain and drizzle, while the rest of the country will remain mostly dry. Wind will pick up throughout the day, with persistent rain spreading from the southwest in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 4 to 7 degrees generally, with slightly milder conditions in the southwest. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds will develop countrywide by the afternoon, increasing to strong to near gale force in coastal parts of the southwest and west. Overnight, wet and windy conditions from the southwest will gradually spread northeastwards. Heavy bursts in the south and west could lead to spot flooding, and some temporary sleet may fall on high ground in parts of Connacht, Ulster, and Leinster. Fresh to strong southeasterly winds, with gales along western and southern coasts initially, will slowly ease from the southwest overnight. Lowest temperatures will range from 1 to 4 degrees, but milder conditions are expected in the southwest and near the south coast.Friday: Rain will commence the day, but brighter and milder conditions will prevail across much of Munster and southern and western Connacht by the afternoon. Cooler, duller, and damper conditions will persist further north and east. Temperatures will range from 5 to 8 degrees generally, but milder in Munster and south and west Connacht with highs of 9 to 12 degrees. Gusty east to southeast winds will ease to light to moderate southeast or variable by the afternoon. Clear spells in the south and west will be evident initially on Friday night, but mostly cloudy skies elsewhere with patchy rain and drizzle. The cloud cover will thicken across the south and west overnight, bringing the possibility of more persistent rain moving into the southwest and south towards morning. Patches of mist and hill fog are also anticipated. Lowest temperatures will range from 2 to 7 degrees in light to moderate east to southeast breezes. Saturday: Met Eireann cautions that there is still uncertainty regarding Saturday, but it is likely to be cloudy with outbreaks of rain. Highest temperatures will range from 6 to 10 degrees, warmest in the southwest. Mostly moderate east to southeast winds will be fresher near Atlantic coasts. Outbreaks of rain and drizzle are expected to continue. Lowest temperatures will range from 3 to 5 degrees.Sunday: Met Eireann notes that confidence in the forecast for Sunday is lower than usual at this stage. Cloudy and wet conditions are likely to persist, but some drier and brighter periods are also possible. Temperatures will range from 5 to 10 degrees, highest in the southwest, with moderate, occasionally fresh southeast winds. For the most up-to-date forecast, visit www.met.ie
