Former Cork City and Milan prospect Cathal Heffernan joined Newcastle from the Serie A outfit last summer.
Ireland underage defender Cathal Heffernan admits there are a “tough few weeks” coming up as he bounces back into pre-season training with Newcastle United.
“We've been doing a lot of tests, being in the gym and then out on the grass, getting back into our first session which is always nice in getting on the footballs. Heffernan, who also captained the club’s Under-19 side, was part of a trophy-winning team last year. Newcastle’s youngsters won the Northumberland Senior Cup when they beat Blyth Town 2-1 at St James’ Park.
“It was important for us to end the season on a high and, hopefully, we can now bring that energy into this season. Dad Rob Heffernan was speaking on the podcast he hosts with Laura O’Mahony, Red Raw, when he revealed the reason behind Cathal’s absence.
