The 23-year-old Cork-born defender has agreed a four-year deal after arriving for a fee believed to be around £17million.

“When the transfer window opened there were other clubs in for me but there was only one club I wanted to go to – it was Everton.“I'm a ball-playing centre half, fast, I like to attack in both boxes and I like to bring a bit of excitement. “We’ve then got the new stadium, which looks great. Not just that but we’re shaping a team for the future and can push on.”The 6'6" centre-back had loan spells with Swindon Town and Belgian side RWD Molenbeek before signing for Lyon in October 2023.

Branthwaite has been the subject of bids from Manchester United but their offers have not come close to a valuation which would persuade Everton to consider selling. Everton's director of football Kevin Thelwell added: “Jake was much sought-after following an excellent season with Lyon and we are delighted he wanted his future to be with Everton.
