Ireland is bracing for severe weather, including torrential rain, flooding, and a dramatic cold snap starting on New Year's Day. Met Eireann has issued a 24-hour weather warning for Donegal due to heavy rainfall. The UK's Met Office has also issued a snow warning for Northern Ireland. Ireland is expected to experience a significant drop in temperatures, potentially reaching -11C, with snowfall also possible.

However it has warned that Ireland will experience a significant drop in temperatures that will persist for at least the first week of January. Early weather models suggest temperatures could plummet to a bone-chilling -11C in some areas next week, accompanied by potential snowfall. The national forecaster said: 'A spell of unsettled weather is developing with wet and windy or very windy conditions before turning colder and more settled
