Ireland’s Euro 2025 qualifier in Stockholm was decided by a goal six minutes from time, but people questioned whether the goalscorer should still have been on the pitch.
Megan Connolly has hit out at the referee for not sending off goalscorer Magdalena Erikssen shortly before her strike.
McCabe picked up her second booking of the campaign - and midfielder Connolly felt Romanian referee Alina Pesu got some of the big calls wrong in the Friends Arena. Connolly admitted that it was a sickener to lose out to a set-piece so late in Tuesday’s game against the team ranked sixth in the world.
“They’ve had so many corners and free-kicks, and then you switch off for a second and they punish you. All the hard work you do in and out of possession, it’s a tough one.
