Ireland pub and travel reopening latest - new date for indoor dining as Taoiseach Micheal Martin gives biggest hint yet
Legislation is expected to be rushed through the Dáil to get indoor dining reopened as publicans have conceded a vaccine pass is their only option to allow customers back indoors.
The Dáil and the Seanad is due to rise for summer recess next Thursday but the Fianna Fáil leader said it will be a very short piece of legislation. The body that represents pubs in Dublin have said they have been left with no other option to reopen with vaccine passes or else face being shut until September or possibly October.
The LVA have said the vaccine pass system is “open to abuse” and claim the system is “discriminatory towards hospitality staff and others who may not yet have been vaccinated or who are unable to do so for various reasons.” Sources have told the Irish Mirror that indoor hospitality could reopen for fully vaccinated people first and subsequently for people who have recovered from Covid-19.
VFI chief Padraig Cribben said: “While six options will be presented to the Government, most of the discussions focused on devising a system that allows only vaccinated people and those recovered from Covid indoors. He said in a statement that the gardai “will play a role in regulating and inspecting the new protocols.”Mr Cummins said the RAI are still pushing for reopening on July 19
As most of those below the age of 30 continue to await their vaccinations, Mr Smyth confirmed that PCR tests will still be accepted, with airport staff simply comparing details with your passport.
