The rare Status Orange alert was issued by Met Eireann shortly after Storm Darragh was officially named by the UK Met Office on Thursday morning
Met Eireann has sounded a rare Status Orange weather alert as Storm Darragh is set to batter parts of Ireland over the next 48 hours.
The Status Orange alert is for wind and applies to counties: Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal and will be active between 10pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday. Meanwhile, the Met Office in the UK has issued an Status Amber alert of wind for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry - this will be active between 3am and 9pm on Saturday.
It wasn't all bad news from Alan who said we could see a dramatic and much more positive change to conditions on Sunday. Cold and breezy on Saturday night with clear spells and further showers, some wintry, with the showers mainly in the north and parts of the west, but becoming more isolated overnight. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees, with the chance of some frost and ice in sheltered parts.
