That’s because in Ireland we have some of the most restrictive defamation laws in Europe.
The laws – also known as libel and slander – exist to protect people’s reputations against untrue statements made against them. Reform has been long overdue. In November 2016 the Government began a review of the Defamation Act 2009. Two and a half years later, nothing has happened.
