Having grown up with the New Zealand v South Africa rivalry, Lowe says it's nothing different when wearing the 'green jumper' for Ireland against the Springboks
As a kid back in Nelson on the shores of Tasman Bay, James Lowe quickly understood the Kiwi rivalry with South Africa.
"Crusaders used to play one game a year in my hometown Nelson and we used to play against the Cheetahs. "But however far we get in this competition, I’m sure I’ll reflect back with fond memories so not yet, not yet." “To really put a statement on this competition is hopefully what we’re going to get and that will be reflected by the performance.
"We think we are in a good place if we put ourselves on the front foot and, hopefully, the performance will show that. Lowe jokes that if he was Ireland's only back on the bench then "we would be in a lot of trouble", but adds that the Springboks' decision to put seven forwards on their bench is more of a concern to the likes of his front row Leinster colleague Andrew Porter.
