Irish political leaders are satisfied with how the country has handled the recent severe weather, as milder conditions are expected this weekend.

Ireland's political leaders have expressed satisfaction with the country's response to the recent severe weather. Temperatures plummeted to -7.5C in some areas on Thursday, prompting weather warnings that remained in effect until Friday. The lowest reading was recorded in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, while other areas like Athenry and Oak Park also experienced sub-zero temperatures. Thousands faced power and water outages during the week.

While an orange weather warning for low temperatures and ice remains in effect for 13 counties through Friday morning, milder weather is expected this weekend. The National Emergency Co-ordination Group (NECG) met on Thursday and stated that temperatures will gradually rise from tomorrow, with forecasts predicting 8-11C by Sunday. Keith Leonard, national director of the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management, acknowledged the severity of Thursday night but emphasized that the country is nearing the end of the severe weather phase. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to reconnect those without power or water. Taoiseach Simon Harris expressed contentment with the response, praising the proactive approach of Met Éireann and the coordination among various agencies. Tánaiste Micheál Martin agreed that significant warnings were issued and emphasized the strong response from state agencies.
