The 35-year-old was a banker to play in his fourth World Cup but is a massive injury concern for Andy Farrell ahead of tomorrow's France 2023 squad announcement
Another torrid night in Bayonne as Ireland made it a record 13 wins in a row but Cian Healy's fourth World Cup could be over before it started.Healy went down under pressure at a scrum 20 minutes in as the Samoa pack piled through at the Stade Jean Dauger.
"I saw what you saw, he pulled up sharp didn't he and struggled to get off the field so we'll try to get that assessed as soon as we possibly can, first thing in the morning," said Farrell. As for the game - and 16 years on from the infamous Battle of Bayonne - Ireland struggled in the rain against highly motivated opponents and needed a crucial James Ryan lineout steal in the dying moments to prevent a shock defeat.
Jack Crowley picked out Mack Hansen with a pin-point cross-kick and the winger fed Jimmy O'Brien inside for his first Test try. Crowley added the extras. Stuart McCloskey's pass was meant for Henshaw but struck Duncan Paia’aua in the face - the full-back raced upfield to score and Lima Sopoaga converted to level it up, then fired over a penalty from a scrum win to make it 10-7 at the break.
They scored again in the 64th minute when they finally nailed a lineout maul and Rob Herring powered over.
