An area of high pressure to the west of the country is set to play 'a more dominant role' in our weather after the weekend, according to Met Éireann
Temperatures could be set to spike next week with a return of some glorious sunshine looking likely, according to the latest weather models.
Cool air drawn down from the Arctic Circle has seen the mercury drop this week, with a cold breeze affecting areas of the west and north west in particular. A mix of showers and sunshine will persist during the weekend but sun worshippers will be pinning their hopes on the promise of a major rise in temperatures from early next week.Rather cool today, Wednesday, with variable cloud, showers and sunny spells. The best of the sunshine will occur this morning. Showers will be most frequent across the north and west, some heavy with a slight chance of hail in the north.
Showers will become increasingly isolated on Thursday evening and night and it will be mainly dry with clear spells for a time. Cloud will increase from the Atlantic overnight with patchy rain and drizzle developing in Atlantic coastal counties. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees in light southwest or variable breezes.Mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading eastwards on Friday morning.
