Ireland's assistant coach, Paul O'Connell, reports a healthy squad with no injury concerns as they prepare for the Six Nations opener against England. Meanwhile, England has been hit by several key injuries.
Ireland assistant coach Paul O'Connell reported that the Irish team has no injury concerns at their training camp in Quinta do Lago, Portugal, as they prepare for their Six Nations opener against England in Dublin on February 4th. 32 of Ireland 's 36-man Six Nations squad and four development players arrived at the camp on Wednesday, with Dan Sheehan, James Lowe, Jack Boyle, and Caolin Blade remaining in Ireland to play for their provinces.
The Leinster trio and Connacht scrum-half are expected to join the Ireland camp in Portugal on Sunday after their provincial matches. \In contrast to Ireland's healthy squad, England has been plagued by injuries recently. Hooker Jamie George, number eight Alex Dombrandt, and scrum-half Jack van Poortvliet were ruled out of their training camp in Italy. First-choice scrum-half Alex Mitchell is also dealing with a knee injury. \O'Connell stated that everyone on the Irish squad is training fully. He confirmed that there are no significant differences in the training regime with Andy Farrell, the head coach, currently away on Lions duty. Simon Easterby has stepped in as interim head coach. O'Connell emphasized that the team is following their usual pre-game formula, adapting it slightly to keep things fresh. The Irish team gathered in Dublin on Monday, trained there on Tuesday, and then flew to Portugal on Wednesday. They trained yesterday and had a light walkthrough today, but will increase the intensity tomorrow with a full pitch session. O'Connell explained that the first week of training focuses on reintroducing the team's way of doing things, their language, and ensuring players feel comfortable. He acknowledged that the players have been involved in a busy period of European and inter-provincial games and the coaching staff needs to be mindful of their previous experiences
