Mayo and Galway is being hit worst with a Status Yellow warning in place until 9pm on Saturday night.
The weather is showing no signs of improvement with rain in the Met Éireann forecast right up to next Wednesday and beyond.
Saturday started with heavy showers and they will continue. Met Éireann says: "Wet and windy today with widespread showers or longer spells of rain, heavy at times, combined with increasingly fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees. There may be a slight reprieve as "the showers will gradually become isolated later on Sunday with clear and dry spells developing overnight. Westerly breezes will slowly weaken with lowest temperatures of 9 or 10 degrees."
