Ireland play Finland in Helsinki on Thursday before travelling to Athens to take on Greece on Sunday
Heimir Hallgrimsson has accepted that his Ireland players are low on confidence, but he also denies this is rock bottom for a side down on its luck.
Ideally, O’Shea and Hallgrimsson would like to marry both but that’s hard to do when your team is in a rut and most of your players are used to defeat and disappointment. O’Shea said: “If you're trying to get new ideas across and implement them, there has to be a balance - but we want to win. “At different spells you will have a rough patch, and the only way you will get through it is by sticking together and working hard.
While Hallgrimsson was criticised for taking a back seat role during last month’s defeats to England and Greece, he hit back with an eye-opener squad selection last week. It’s no surprise therefore that his right hand man O’Shea was singing the same tune yesterday, adamant that Ireland have not binned Doherty, for instance.
