Irish-Algerian soccer player speaks out as he claims he is suffering continuous racial abuse
A young Dublin soccer player has told how casual racism blots the game he loves.
Yanis describes himself as Irish and Algerian, but Ireland is his home and always will be. His dad, he told 98fm, has lived here since 1979. Yanis said that an incident unfolded during the game where tempers were raised, which led to an opponent allegedly racially abusing him."I was like 'what did you say?' and he said it again. I said 'say it again, say it to my face'.
"I took to Twitter that night. That got a big response, a lot of likes, a lot of retweets, I think 10,000 people seen it." The Leinster Senior League confirmed on Twitter that they had not instructed him to remove the tweet, and added: "As with any incident of this nature we would encourage and support anyone to come forward and report this to the LSL through your club secretary."Yanis said support was there, and upon the persuasion of a pair of pals the 19-year-old, with screenshots in supply, took to Twitter that Sunday night.
"I've been getting racial abuse on the pitch, players have, people watching the game have, I'm just sick of it at this stage - I can't let it carry on.
