Elizabeth Ndudi won gold and set a national record in the process
Irish athlete Elizabeth Ndudi has won gold at the European Championships and set a national record in the process.
Recording a stunning 6.56, Ndudi did so in her third of six attempts and finished ahead of Bulgaria's Plamena Mitkova and Germany's Laura Raquel Muller.Speaking after the win, Ndudi said: “I’m in shock, I’m amazed how well the event went for me. I was confident in myself coming in here but it’s a huge improvement and to do it in such a high competition makes the national record so special”.
Ndudi created history with the win, becoming the first Irish athlete to win gold at the European Championships in the long jump.
