An Irish bishop has been shot and killed in California.
David O'Connell, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, was discovered with a gunshot wound in a house in a suburb of the city yesterday afternoon.US media say police are treating the shooting as a suspicious death.In a statement, Los Angeles Archbishop José Gomez said Bishop O'Connell's death was a shock, saying that he had"no words to express my sadness".
He paid tribute to"Bishop Dave" describing him as"a peacemaker with a heart for the poor and the immigrant".
