The defeat came just four days after the Ibrox club lost 3-1 at home to Aberdeen, a result which led to the sacking of Michael Beale the following day

Rangers are a club in turmoil at the moment as Steven Davis' first game as interim manager ended in an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Aris Limassol on Thursday night. After being entrusted with a massive budget to fund a rebuild in Govan, it went all so wrong for Beale. He was sacked after just seven league games, having lost three of those and being ceremoniously dumped out of the Champions League by PSV in a 7-3 aggregate loss. But even without the Englishman, it gets worse.

However, that was quickly turned on its head when Aris Limassol downed Davis' men 2-1 on his managerial debut to turn the joke back to the Ibrox club. And, in an unprovoked attack on X, Dublin club Palmerstown FC have launched a tirade of tweets that have rubbed the salt into the Rangers wounds, naming Celtic as the bigger club amongst other insults.

The first tweet from @OfficialParmo read: "Even we beat Aris Limassol and we’re a Sunday league team", followed by a hands-over-eyes emoji. Next came a tweet that said "Fun fact: Both Palmerstown FC and Rangers were formed in the same year. 2012 #MightySwans", before a third tweet in the early hours of Friday morning said: "Reasons why Palmerstown FC are a bigger club than the Glasgow Rangers. More successful, bigger recognition, Muhammad Ali visited our home ground whilst the biggest name to visit Ibrox was a Tina Turner .

The final tweet said: "A lot of new followers in the past few hours from Celtic fans. The biggest club in Dublin recognises the biggest club in Glasgow."
