Negotiating teams from Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are on track to finalize a programme for government on Tuesday. The document, expected to be approved by party leaders, could be published as early as Wednesday, paving the way for Micheál Martin to become Taoiseach on January 22nd. While the Regional Independent group initially sought a senior cabinet position, it is now more likely that one member will be appointed as a Super Junior Minister.
Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael negotiating teams are on course to complete their work drafting a programme for government on Tuesday, The Irish Mirror has learned.
Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have been meeting with the Regional Independent group, led by Tipperary North TD Michael Lowry, since last Thursday for official government formation talks. It is also growing increasingly unlikely that either Michael or Danny Healy Rae will be appointed a Super Junior Minister in turn for their support of a coalition government.
Mr Martin’s party will also hold an Ard Fheis in Dublin on Sunday to allow members to vote for the plan. Another senior source stated that the teams had completed their work relatively quickly, notwithstanding the fact that talks paused for two weeks to allow a Christmas break.
