The Irish couple, aged 59 and 60, were reportedly hit by a Ford Fiesta when they were crossing a road in the Italian capital city of Rome.
The driver of the car, a 54-year-old man, attempted to save the couple but both the husband and wife died at the scene.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the incident, with a spokesperson confirming to various outlets:"The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case and providing consular assistance. As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases."
