Irish farmer's shock at coming across extremely rare Snowy Owl on Cork's Beara Peninsula
A local farmer couldn't believe his luck when he stumbled upon a rare Snowy Owl on the Bear Peninsula on Tuesday morning.
Farmer Donal spotted the bird in the Roosk area at about 11am on Tuesday after his cattle alerted him to the snow white bird, Cork Beo reports. "The minute I approached it it took off, I wouldn't be great for pictures but I was able to get a snap of it as it took off."I wouldn't know much about birds now, it was only that someone said it to me that it could be a snow owl, I'd never heard of them."
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Mr Dempsey said: "Definitely from the look of it it's a Snowy Owl, they have very distinctive features."It's a very rare bird in Ireland overall, one I heard a couple of months ago was hanging around the Blaskets in Kerry - there was another in the Blaskets last year."In 40 years I've only seen two Snowy Owls, they are a very rare bird here.
