Charles Ward was elected to the fourth seat while minister for agriculture, Charlie McConalogue, took the fifth seat.Outgoing TD Thomas Pringle failed to retain his seat. Timmins led Donnelly by 7,551 votes to 6,471 going into the final count, which saw the distribution of the 6,406 votes of Shay Cullen, a former Fine Gael councillor.
