Irish Ministers Meet to Address Trade Backlog Following Holyhead Port Closure

Irish Minister of State at the Department of Transport James Lawless and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan met with Welsh officials to discuss solutions to the trade backlog caused by the closure of Holyhead Port after Storm Darragh. They will also meet with logistics stakeholders, ferry operators, and the UK Transport Secretary to explore alternative port options. Temporary relaxations of drivers' hours rules have also been granted for a 14-day period to alleviate the impact on freight transport.

Minister of State at the Department of Transport James Lawless has met with Ken Skates MS, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, to help clear the trade backlog following the closure of Holyhead Port .

The easing of drivers hours rules will see the maximum daily driving time extended from 9 to 11 hours but not more than twice a week. This is in addition to an extension to 10 hours allowed under normal rules but also only twice per week.
