On Wednesday, Leo Varadkar shocked the nation as he confirmed he was stepping down as Taoiseach and leader of Fine Gael , telling Ireland 'We give it everything until we can’t anymore and then we have to move on' as he held back tears.
Speculation began regarding who could replace Varadkar, with Enterprise Minister Simon Coveney emerging as an early bookies favourite before Higher Education Minister Simon Harris took over as the frontrunner.
