Tracy Verblis, 48, was given just 18 months to live when she was diagnosed with a highly aggressive brain tumour after suffering a seizure at home with her husband Daniel while her son Oliver was at school.

An Irish mum with the world’s deadliest form of brain cancer, known as “the Terminator”, is on a mission to live as long as possible to see her son grow up.

After researching alternative therapies, the family discovered a new treatment called DCVax-L, a form of immunotherapy which Tracy said is thought to work as a vaccine to keep the aggressive cancer at bay. “We spend time in nature and at the beach with him also and have been lucky to have a sun holiday with him this year. I plan to try and do this with him as much as we can.

“We were told, ‘You need to start it sooner rather than later.’ So we pushed ahead, even though we didn’t have all the funds yet.“They take out the cells they need, and they use the tumour and the blood cells to create your own vaccine. After receiving her diagnosis, Tracy moved back home to Drogheda with her family in August 2022 so she could be better supported in her cancer battle.
